The Book Bazaar occupies a small courtyard between the Grand Bazaar and Beyazit Mosque, and it has been selling books on the same spot since Ottoman times. Before that the site held a paper market, which makes the trade here older than printing in this country.
The stalls carry secondhand Turkish books, old prints, calligraphy panels and Ottoman-era maps. English titles are limited, but the reproductions of miniatures and old city plans make good things to carry home, and they cost far less than the equivalent in the bazaar next door.
The courtyard is shaded by plane trees and stays quiet even when the bazaar is full. From Hotel Sultania it is about twelve minutes on foot.
