The Karakoy waterfront is the strip between the Galata Bridge and the Tophane shore, and it has become the place Istanbul goes out in the evening. Fish restaurants under the bridge give way to cocktail bars, coffee roasters and rooftop terraces as you move east.

The character changes with the hour. In the afternoon it is coffee and window shopping; after dark the tables spill onto the pavement and the bars along Kemankes Caddesi fill up. Galata Tower is lit above it all.
Getting back is easy: the tram runs late, and a walk across Galata Bridge at night is a good end to an evening. From Hotel Sultania it is about twenty minutes on foot or a short tram ride.
