The tomb of Sultan Ahmed I stands at the northern corner of the Blue Mosque complex, facing the square. He commissioned the mosque and died in 1617, a year after it was completed, aged twenty-seven.
Inside, under a single dome, lie the sultan, his wife Kosem, and three of his sons, including Osman II and Murad IV. The walls carry Iznik tiles from the same period as the mosque, and the calligraphic panels are among the finest in the city.
Entry is free and takes ten minutes. Shoes are removed at the door and heads covered, as in a mosque. It is closed on Mondays.
From Hotel Sultania it is a walk of about ten minutes, and it sits directly on the route between the mosque and Hagia Sophia.
